Do you know about your covid-19 status? Have you visited your nearest health center to ensure that you have not been infected with the novel coronavirus?
Certainly this does not apply to everyone, however, if you have been feeling general body weakness, experiencing a terrible headache and top it all off, having a dry cough, it may be wise to undergo that covid-19 test.
Currently, the world is battling with the omicron variant that was first reported in Botswana on the 11 th of November 2021 followed by another case in South Africa which was reported on the 14 th of November 2021.
According to research by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the Omicron variant spreads much faster than both the SARS-CoV-2 and Delta variant although the reason for this still remains unknown.
Furthermore, CDC warns that anyone with the omicron variant is likely to spread the virus to other people irrespective of whether they are vaccinated or have not exhibited symptoms of the virus in their bodies.
Aside from this, studies also indicate that Omicron infections, especially reinfections and breakthrough infections in people that have been vaccinated could either lead to severe illness or death as compared to the prior variants.
Aljazeera reports that the most common symptoms of the Omicron variant include a runny nose, headache, fatigue (either mild or severe), sneezing and a sore throat.
As of 23 rd December, Ministry of Health has recorded a total 710 new cases of covid-19 which is 208 higher than the number of covid-19 cases that had been reported the previous day on 22 nd December in the country.
With such large numbers that are spreading like a bush fire, it would be wise to get yourself tested to determine whether who have been infected or not. This is essential because although some people are symptomatic, others maybe asymptomatic.
Asymptomatic people usually do not show any signs of what they are suffering from, in this covid-19, however, they can also transmit the virus from one person to another. Which explains why it is essential for everyone to be vaccinated against covid-19.
Meanwhile, to fight against the rapid spread of covid-19, vaccines still remain the most highly recommended solution as well as masks which will protect you from all variants and testing to evaluate what your current status is.
During this festive season, stay safe and protect your family from contracting the deadly coronavirus. Wear your mask at all times, wash your hands with clean water and soap, social distance and above all, test and self-isolate in case you learn of a positive status.
