The singer was on 25th December 1989 born the Ugandan district of Masaka. Unfortunately, in
between 4 to 5 years after his birth, his mother kicked the bucket which forced Eddy Kenzo to
grow up a little too soon. On the busy streets of both Masaka and Kampala, Eddy Kenzo became
a constant occupant for the next 13 years.
Despite living an unbearably hard life, Eddy Kenzo still found time to juggle between books and
street life, after all they say, Education is in deed the key to success. At the time, Eddy Kenzo
was also exceptionally good at football as at age 9, he had already joined Masaka Local Council
Through his talent on the football pitch, Eddy Kenzo landed himself a scholarship into Lubiri
Secondary School. However, his academic journey meet it's end her perhaps thanks to the
various sharp punches life had thrown at him.
Aside from his ability to dribble the ball almost as greatly as Messi does, Eddy Kenzo was also
blessed with a music talent which he finally worked upon after his football venture
unfortunately died prematurely.
In 2008, Eddy Kenzo tasted the musical waters for the first time ever in a collaboration with
singer Mikie Wine where the two blended to produced ‘yannimba’ two years later, in 2010,
Eddy Kenzo returned with ‘stamina’ which has been followed by many widely listened to songs
even beyond the confines of East Africa.
Subsequently, Kenzo established his own big talent Entertainment record label which has been
a stepping stone for many Ugandan artists and has modeled some of Uganda’s best musicians.
2013 saw Eddy Kenzo holding his first concert at Kyadondo Rugby grounds meant to support his
‘Kamunguluze’ following a release of multiple songs in 2012. Shortly after, his international breakthrough came in 2014 through his ‘sitya loss’ truck.
The song’s prominence can partly be attributed to the group of children that featured dancing
to it’s beats who later became to be know as the Ghetto Kids. The song’s prominence went as
far as earnings multiple views on YouTube and other social media platforms, the singer even
started a petition aimed at granting the children a chance to feature on The Ellen DeGeneres
Clearly, this could be considered the turning point of Eddy Kenzo’s music career as hence forth,
he gained international prominence earning collaborations with artists such as Kcee, Niniola,
among many other. It also helped him interact with artists such as Akon and DeMarco while his
original ‘mbilo mbilo’ single was used as a soundtrack in the movie ‘Queen of Katwe.’
In 2015, Eddy Kenzo became the first Ugandan and East African to ever win a BET award as he
landed the award in 2015 although prior to this, in 2011, he won the Best New Artist Award
whereas in 2018, he won the Nickelodeon Kids’ Choice Award.
Eddy Kenzo’s ‘jubilation’ video also won the Best East African Music Video Award at the
Zanzibar International Film Festival in 2017 while he was also awarded the All Africa Music
Awards and the Best East African Male Artist.
Eddy Kenzo Relationship/Girlfriend
Previously, the singer was in a romantic relationship with singer Rema Namakula and the two
were blessed with a baby girl named Amaal Musuuza who so happens to be his second
daughter after Maya Musuuza that he had from an earlier relationship.
However, in 2019, paradise was filled with trouble after Rema Namakula shocked many people
as she announced her relationship with her former doctor, Dr. Hamza Ssebunya. The two got
engaged in a traditional marriage while Eddy Kenzo has since kept his love life away from the
preying eyes of the public.
Currently, Eddy Kenzo is considered one of Uganda as well as East Africa’s wealthiest musicians.
