Former South African president Jacob Zuma in the hospital prior to graft trial

Former South African President Jacob Zuma is in the hospital just a few days before his graft trial. He is seriously sick and surely unwell as you read this.

Prior to this, the former head of state had been sent to jail for a 15 months sentence last month,
for contempt of court and was expected to appear in court on a separate trial for the case of
graft. However, prior to this, the former President Jcob Zuma has been admitted to hospital.

This information has been confirmed by the Department of Correctional Services through a
statement as they said,

Can confirm that former president Jacob Zuma has today, 6 August 2021, been admitted to an outside hospital for medical observation.” The statement reads.

The 79-year old former President was in line to resume his long term trial over corruption
charges levied against his as he was meant to appear in court later next week on the 10th of
August.

Among the list of things meant to be part of the scheduled hearing include pleas for the drop of
16 charges among which fraud, graft and racketeering that have been levied against the ailing
former head of state.

These charges were imposed on Jacob Zuma in relation to the 1999 purchases of fighter jets, patrol
boar and equipment from five European arm firms at the time when he served as the country’s
deputy President.

Allegedly, during his term, he took bribes from one of the firms which is known as French
Defense giant Thales which has also been charged with corruption and money laundering.

However, proceedings have been held on for over a decade resulting into accusations of
delaying tactics.

The information in regards to his medical condition has been released so far aside from the
statement that indicated ‘medical observation,’ last month, Zuma was granted a 24-hours leave
to attend his brothers funeral.
