KIGALI – Tanzanian lady President Samia Hassan Suluhu arrives in Kigali, Rwanda on Monday 2nd August 2021. She is slated for a two day state visit invited by her counterpart Kagama Paul the president of Rwanda.
The major agenda for Samia Suluhu visit to Rwanda includes holding talks with President Paul Kagame and again, to witness the signing of bilateral pacts as well as addressing the press. In her visit, major issues are supposed to be tackled and addressed that bind the two East African countries.
Samia’s visit is again to strengthen ties between the two neighboring countries, Tanzania and Rwanda. It is further noted that, of now the ties are strongest in trade and investment and Rwanda uses the port of Dar Es Salaam for much of her inbound and outbound cargo which is over 80 per cent through the Central Corridor.
It should also be remembered that, referring to this visit, Paula Ingabire, the Minister of ICT and Innovation in July led a delegation of public and private sector to Tanzania to engage in cooperation in the sector. Some of Rwanda’s submarine sea cables IT infrastructure are through the port of Dar es Salaam.
More so, in 2018, Tanzania and Rwanda agreed on a joint construction of a Standard Gauge Railway (SGR) from Isaka (northwestern Tanzania) to Kigali, a move aimed at facilitating movement of goods between the two countries.
Some of these and more issues are going to be addressed more and agreements signed between Rwanda and Tanzania during this state visit by Samia Suluhu Hassan. However, it should be remembered that, Samia replaced the John Magufuli Pombe former Tanzania president who died recently.
And by the Tanzania law, the vice president who happened to be Samia Suluhu who is in Rwanda on a visit, was sworn in and she filled the presidential seat.
